Chances are, if you’ve spent any time in Plattsburgh, you’ve met Matt Spiegel. Matt is the proud owner of four well known businesses in our region and is very active in our community. When he’s not busy contributing to the Plattsburgh business community, you can find him cheering on his children at sporting events or enjoying all that the Adirondack coast has to offer year-round.
TDC has been lucky to have Matt as board member since 2004, and would like to congratulate him again on his recognition by the North Country Chamber of Commerce as the 2020 business person of the year.
What is your title in the community?
My title is husband, dad, and owner of these local businesses:
How long have you been involved with TDC?
Since 2004
What would the community be surprised to learn about TDC?
TDC supports many education programs in the community. From helping to foster the next generation workforce by exposing middle school-aged children to STEM activities to cultivating our current workforce by aiding in training adults to find and meet their potential.
Why do you think TDC has been successful for 60 years?
Since its inception, TDC has been guided by a dedicated group of local individuals from a wide variety of work backgrounds. The organization’s ever-evolving board of directors has remained focused on building a better community by attracting companies to our region and expanding job opportunities for residents and newcomers. By continually educating our workforce, TDC will continue to see continual growth and prosperity in our region.
What do you hope the next 60 years will bring for TDC?
I hope to see TDC continue to evolve with the times, helping to keep the North Country relevant in our state economy. I also hope that they’ll be able to continue to attract large companies that will feed our local economy.
TDC just updated their logo and brand, what are your thoughts of the new look?
I am very happy with it, the new TDC look is very professional and relevant to our region.
What makes Northern NY a great place to do business?
We live in a region where people truly care about each business's success. This has always been evident, but this past year has proven how much this really matters.
The success of our businesses is amplified by the excellent representation for local businesses through, amongst others, our Chamber of Commerce and our elected representatives.
What is the best part about living on the Adirondack Coast?
We have the best of all worlds here. Four seasons, the metropolitan area of Montreal, the Adirondacks, and of course Lake Champlain, one of the nicest bodies of water in the country.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to spend time with my wife Amy and my children Jack and Lily. When we are not watching the kids play sports, we downhill ski, mountain bike in the Adirondacks, and often run to Montreal to catch a show or to see the HABS play. Lake Champlain is a real happy place for us where we wakeboard, waterski, or just plain cruise around.
TDC’s board of directors plays a large role in the success of the organization. Their leadership has helped to shape TDC into what it is today - helping hundreds of businesses grow and expand in the greater Plattsburgh region. The board of directors is composed of business men and women from across Clinton County. If you’d like to learn more about this group, contact us at info@tdcnny.com.
