When looking at the TDC website or our social media pages, you may wonder who the mastermind is behind it all. Alyssa Stoeckl (now Boczar – read more about that below), TDC digital marketing specialist, creates great media pieces for TDC, along with working closely on our many marketing projects. Also known around the office as our IT specialist, Alyssa has been an integral part of the TDC staff since 2019.
As we see the Adirondack Coast through her fresh eyes, we wanted to take a moment to highlight Alyssa’s contribution to TDC!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY. Prior to moving to the North Country, I also spent a considerable amount of time living in Ithaca, NY as a student and professional working in regional theatre.
Where did you go to school?
I attended Ithaca College where I earned my master’s in business administration as well as a bachelor's degree in theatre arts management.
How long have you been with TDC?
Almost two years! I started with TDC in October of 2019.
What has been your favorite project that TDC has been a part of?
While my tenure with the organization is short, I feel so fortunate to have joined the team at such a pivotal moment in our organization's history. This year, 2021, marks 60 years of business in the community, it also marks the beginning of a new phase of development of Air Industrial Park as it expands onto the former Clinton County Airport. The decisions that TDC makes today will impact the next 60 years of our organization. I am honored and energized to be a part of the team during this exciting time.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention the recent completion of our rebranding project. Having spearheaded these efforts, collaborating with Boire Benner Group, TDC staff and board, I am very proud of the way our refreshed brand and website turned out. Our new look and updated name ties into the renaissance of our organization, positioning ourselves to stand out in a more digital age, as we plan for the longevity of our organization. If you don’t already subscribe to our newsletter, or follow us on social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram) here’s my shameless plug for you to go and do so now.
What is your favorite sports team?
The Buffalo Bills! Having been brought up in Buffalo, it’s sort of in your DNA. This was a fantastic season, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s Super Bowl.... Go Bills!
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love being a part of an organization that has such deep roots in our community. It has been wonderful to get to know our board of directors and learn about the Plattsburgh business community through them. I feel so fortunate to have a job that allows me to interact with so many other businesses and partner organizations in the region. Also – having great co-workers to collaborate with daily is an awesome part of my job.
What is a little-known fact about the Plattsburgh region?
Although I’m fairly new to the region, I have to say that the Plattsburgh City Beach is the best kept secret. The sand is soft, the water is clear and warm, and you can’t beat the breathtaking views of the mountains across the lake. Looking forward to many more sunny days on the beach!
What are some interesting facts about you?
Favorite quote?
“Nothing is a waste of time if you learn something from it.” – wise words from a fortune cookie that has lived on my desk for years.
Favorite movie?
The Sound of Music. I am a huge fan of Julie Andrews and movie musicals.
Favorite Restaurant?
My gut reaction to that question is Mighty Taco. For those of you who’ve never passed through Buffalo, NY, Mighty Taco is a local Mexican fast-food chain. It’s not anything fancy or sophisticated, but it’s my favorite go-to when I want a quick and delicious meal. Locally, I’d have to say my favorite restaurant is Livingood’s. Their food is excellent and so are their craft beers!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be in your field?
Working in marketing means you get to do a little bit of everything, and no two days are alike.
You must be ready to communicate across multiple teams, deal with tight deadlines, and be flexible when things change. It is a lot of fun and a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding when you see your efforts translate into views, clicks, and sales.
What advice would you give someone starting their career?
No opportunity is too big or too small. If you are given the chance to try something different, connect with new people, or take on a task that you think is beyond your capabilities, DO IT. You’ll be surprised to see where your experiences take you.
What advice would you have given your younger self?
It’s OK not to know everything. In fact, most people don’t know exactly what they’re doing but have the confidence and experience to figure it out.
Don’t be afraid to talk highly about yourself, this is the way that other people will talk about you in return.
What are your personal goals for the future?
My goal is to continue to explore the North Country and experience all that this region has to offer. I’m also looking forward to getting more involved in the community, volunteering or perhaps joining a board.
What are you looking forward to the most in the next five years?
Continuing to grow professionally, hopefully start a family, and making some time to travel again. Oh! And the Buffalo Bills winning the Super Bowl.
TDC is so glad that Alyssa joined the team in 2019. She hit the ground running in our rebranding and website redevelopment project, helped the organization maintain operations through the pandemic, and her energetic personality brings a lot to the office culture. We are excited to see what lays ahead for Alyssa personally and professionally! Thank you, Alyssa, for all that you bring to this organization.
