As the team here at TDC approaches the end of 2024, we are reflecting on the community’s successes and look forward to carrying that momentum into 2025. This year we have been able to celebrate the grand opening of Medisca’s new facility, the completion of the Clinton County Business Innovation Gateway, and welcome Micro Bird’s announcement as the newest addition to our manufacturing community. We also remain steadfast in our commitment to the local workforce by investing in training and education, being “more than a landlord” by providing our tenants with excellent service and communication, and continuing TDC’s ParkPerks programming, with more to come in 2025.
Dani King’s appointment as incoming President and CEO following the announcement of David Champagne’s retirement sets a strong path forward for TDC and the greater Plattsburgh area. Dani has already made outstanding contributions to TDC and our region, and we look forward to seeing where this new role takes the organization. We also welcomed Renee McFarlin to the team as TDC’s new Director of Business Development.
In June, we were thrilled to join our long-time tenant, Medisca, in cutting the ribbon on their new Plattsburgh facility in our Banker Road Industrial Park. After breaking ground in 2022, construction on the 60,000 SF building was completed earlier this year. This TDC investment enabled Medisca to continue their growth in the Plattsburgh region by facilitating the company’s continued expansion and innovation in pharmaceutical compounding.
Micro Bird’s recent announcement to move into a facility on Banker Road is an exciting addition to our transportation manufacturing cluster, especially as Nova Bus’s operation winds down. Micro Bird is committing to investing up to $38 million and 350 jobs to manufacture school buses, including their line of clean, green vehicles. Their presence will help ensure our continued growth as the global economy and environment evolve to meet demands for a reduction in emissions.
The grand opening of the Clinton County Business Innovation Gateway, a truly aspirational project, is a testament to our collaborative environment in the North Country. The Clinton County Legislature, Town of Plattsburgh, and TDC invested in infrastructure at the former Clinton County Airport. This $6 million project created access to 135 acres of land that is ready for development, enabling our area’s continued economic growth. This endeavor’s success would not have happened without the support of our local leaders who successfully worked to secure funding through the US Economic Development Administration, Northern Border Regional Commission, and New York State’s FAST-NY program. We want to extend our gratitude to our elected officials and local partners for their relentless advocacy and commitment to investing in Plattsburgh.
Our dedication to creating and retaining quality jobs in the community is demonstrated by continued investments in workforce strategy, training, and creating new opportunities for engagement in our parks. We hosted two Park Perks days with High Peaks Brew and the Food Dudes, and look forward to more in 2025.
This year, we also launched a campaign celebrating TDC and its role in the community. By broadcasting the benefits of investing and growing your business here, the history of TDC and what we offer to our tenants, we have expanded our reach into diversified industries and markets, and will continue to promote the Plattsburgh Advantage in new and exciting ways through 2025.
We also facilitated our second Manufacturing Experience Day, working with our partners at CFES Brilliant Pathways and Clinton Community College to develop a field trip for local high school students. Six schools participated in visits to seven facilities, including Norsk Titanium (pictured above). Over 110 students were able to discover potential career paths and explore local manufacturers.
