This grant program is part of our dedication to investing in the current and future workforce of the greater Plattsburgh region. “TDC began planning for new investments in workforce development early in 2020, then with the onset of the pandemic, much of that work was put on hold” comments Danielle King, TDC Business Development Manager and staff project lead for workforce development. “This new initiative is a way to bridge the gap through the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, help us to understand the needs of the community, and prepare for additional support in coming years.” TDC's grant program is designed to aid managers looking to train current employees to move up within an organization and create STEM career exploration opportunities for the next generation of our workforce. This two-pronged approach allows us to help businesses maintain a capable workforce today while supporting the workforce of tomorrow.
Over the course of the year, we plan to award a total of $15,000 in funding, divided between programs that support workforce training and early career exploration. Manufacturers looking to invest in their employees and educators with ambitious students are encouraged to apply. “We are excited to see what creative ideas will be presented in the applications”, explained King. Applicants are encouraged to utilize some of the many training service providers available in the North Country. “Our hope is that this funding opportunity will provide the motivation and resources to leaders in our local organizations to invest in promising candidates.”
In the past, TDC has awarded grant money to local science fairs, business competitions, and programs that promote career exploration in science, technology, and mathematics.
