Plattsburgh is centrally located and easily accessible to other summertime destinations such as Ausable Chasm, Lake Placid, Lake George, and the Adirondack Mountains. Whether you like hiking, boating, shopping, or exploring new restaurants, these day-trip destinations are a perfect get away to explore all that northern NY has to offer. If you're new to the area, there are many resources like the Adirondack Coast website to find hiking trails, parks, local events, etc. During the summer, there is no shortage of options for outdoor dining, recreation, markets, concerts, and exploring the rich history of the area. Many locals try to check off a few mountains on their hiking list to gain the infamous "ADK 46er" title or the "Saranac Lake 6er."
Signs of summer in Plattsburgh include boats in and around the marina, ice cream stands open for business, and crowded parking lots at each of the local Michigan hotdog vendors. This year, TDC participated in the Town of Plattsburgh's Michigan Month to celebrate the summer staple meal. We grabbed our michigan passport from one of the participating restaurants which were, Gus', Ronnie's, Clare and Carl's and McSweeney's and had a staff lunch! Head to our Instagram to view the recap!
Summers are also filled with travel, family gatherings, graduations, the list goes on and unfortunately, the time seem to fly by. Here is what our staff has been up to this summer and how they plan to fill their calendar for the remainder of the summer months.
Barbara has been all around the northeast for events. A major benefit of Plattsburgh's location; in a few hours drive you can visit another state or major city. Here is where she traveled:
Cheryl has also taken advantage of Plattsburgh's proximity to the surrounding gems of the North Country. She highly recommends visiting her hometown of Lake Placid.
Brittany has travel plans outside of the country, a quick trip to the Montreal airport which is about 60 miles away, makes it very easy to fly internationally! She also loves to be by the water.
Christine, is very active in the local community, especially the Girl Scouts. As a mom of six children, she spends a lot of time supporting her kids and their summer activities!
We hope you enjoy the rest of your sweet summertime!
