We were thrilled to work with Clinton Community College (CCC) and CFES Brilliant Pathways for a second time to host another Manufacturing Experience Day on April 17, 2024. On this day over 110 tenth-grade students had the opportunity to see how modern manufacturing works in Clinton County.
Students from Beekmantown Central School District, Brushton-Moira Central School District, Chazy Central School District, Northern Adirondack Central School District, Plattsburgh High School, and Willsboro Central School District had the opportunity to explore the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IAM) as well as tour local manufacturers to see their production in action.
Manufacturing Experience Day offered participating students a glimpse into modern manufacturing and hands-on interactive demonstrations and workshops. Current welding students at CCC were also on hand to answer questions. Each student spent half of their day at the IAM, and the other half on two, one-hour guided tours at local manufacturing facilities. The students had the chance to see the operations of Norsk Titanium, Jeffords Steel, Monaghan Medical, MRP Solutions, Alstom, and Schluter Systems.
TDC President and CEO, David F. Champagne III said: "It’s so important for us to give the younger generation exposure to what is here. So the more we can expose the younger generation, high schoolers, and primary/secondary education to what is here, the more we can retain and attract talent and grow our businesses. I think things like Manufacturing Experience Field Day help us to contribute and build bridges between the students and the businesses in the region."
In line with the TDC mission statement: “To foster an environment that creates and retains quality jobs and investments in the community”, we recognize that engaging with young people and promoting manufacturing careers as creative, sustainable, and exciting, means a likelihood of more grads choosing to enter the workforce here in Clinton County and a new generation of talent for the industry.
We want to thank Clinton Community College, CFES Brilliant Pathways, and local manufacturers for their help and collaboration in making this event another success.
